An llms.txt is a plain-text briefing placed at the root of your domain, written for the language models that now answer your customers’ questions. Where robots.txt says what a crawler may read, llms.txt says what it should understand: who you are, what you offer, the pages that matter, the facts you want quoted. Assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity favour sources they can parse with certainty — and punish ambiguity by guessing or omitting you entirely. Most sites publish nothing, so the model reconstructs your business from scattered signals and often gets it wrong. A precise llms.txt removes that doubt: it hands the model a clean, authoritative summary in the exact form it prefers.
